A state of local emergency is no longer in effect for residents south of High Level. Mackenzie County terminated it this morning as the fire at the Norbord mill yard is now contained.
The blaze broke out the afternoon of May 4th and quickly spread to the log storage area outside the plant. Two fire trucks and crews from the Grande Prairie region were sent up to help out, but have since returned home.
Norbord says it immediately suspended production and estimates it should be able to resume operations in two weeks. Shipping finished goods started up again over the weekend. The damage is still being assessed.
