Grande Prairie region continues to help with northern Alberta wildfires

The Grande Prairie-area firefighters that were sent to help in High Level have come back home. Mackenzie County is keeping a state of local emergency over the weekend, but there is no immediate danger. Some residents near the Nordbord yard are on evacuation alert.

More support staff from the Grande Prairie region are being dispatched to Fort McMurray and Edmonton to relieve other responders. Considering the extreme fire hazard in the area, the Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership is making sure to keep enough resources to be able to respond to any local fires.

GPREP is monitoring the fire in Clear Hills County north of Grande Prairie. It got some snow overnight so the voluntary evacuation alert for residents west of Range Road 100 has been lifted. The evacuation preparedness alert for those north of Highway 64 and west of secondary Highway 726 remains in effect.
