Programs available for students at GPRC to improve mental health

The Grande Prairie Regional College has outlets for students and staff for mental health. In light of Mental Health week, Vice President of Academics and Research Susan Bansgrove says it is very important in students but also everyone’s lives.

“We know that students face challenges with exam anxiety, with emotional issues, with a variety of mental health challenges. People outside of educational institutions do too. It is very important to us to address those”

Throughout the college they have ways to help students with programs like Peer Counselling. They are also hiring a new psychologist that will be available for students as well as staff. The Student Wellness Coordinator also brings in dogs for students to release stress.

Bansgrove says that mental health has not always been at the forefront but people are truly recognizing it as important now.
