Cash donations best way to help Fort McMurray fire evacuees: Officials

Cash is king when it comes to helping with the Fort McMurray fire evacuees. Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership recommends that all monetary donations be given to Red Cross to help. They add that donations of goods or products are not being accepted at this point in time and that having donations that are not asked for could have the potential to steer the resources away from where they are needed most.

GPREP is in contact with the Provincial Operations Centre and is ready to respond if requested by the province.

Premier Rachel Notley says the province is matching any donations given to the Red Cross with donations already at $2 million.
