UPDATE: Two children among three dead in Driftpile crash

UPDATE: RCMP say a westbound SUV reportedly hit an eastbound car, and then a van in the same lane. Driving the van was a 36 year old woman who was pronounced dead at the scene, along with a 12 year old boy and an 11 month old girl.

Their van caught fire but a bystander was able to pull out and save a four year old girl. She was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital with a broken bone.

STARS Air Ambulance also transported the 57 year old female driver of the SUV to the Royal Alexandra Hospital where she remains in serious but stable condition.

Three people, including two children, have been killed in a multi-vehicle collision in Driftpile. The three-car crash happened on a bridge along Highway 2 around 3 p.m. Sunday.

Along with High Prairie RCMP and the Lakeshore Regional Police Service, local firefighters also responded to put out flames that broke out at the scene. At this point it’s still unknown how many people were in each of the vehicles involved.

STARS Air Ambulance says it flew a woman in her fifties to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton, but her condition is unknown. The identities of the deceased have not been released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
