Man arrested in relation to CN Trestle Bridge fire in Mayerthorpe

A 19-year old man has been arrested and charged in relation to numerous fires in Mayerthorpe including the CN Trestle Bridge. Lawson Michael Schalm has been charged with eighteen counts of arson.

He will appear in court on May 4th.

The trestle bridge in Mayerthorpe caught fire on April 26th, 2016. An industrial fire alert was issued for the town, and the local trailer court and Mayerthorpe Junior Senior High School were evacuated.

The serious fire started around 1:30 on the CN Rail line in the northwest part of town.
