Grande Prairie is now home to the only mastectomy product shop in northern Alberta. Victoria’s Attic Owner Alison Gustafson says she partnered with Amoena Canada to minimize the amount that breast cancer patients and survivors had to travel to get their products as they offer post-surgery products like camisoles.
“It has a place for drains on either side so that they do not have to tape the drains to their skin. They are all really soft. They are crucial for any woman going in for that sort of procedure”
She says having the store allows her staff to join people on their battle through cancer and it turns into a healing process of it’s own.
Along with the post-surgery items, they also carry prosthetic pieces to fill out breasts for those who need more symmetry.
“Our breasts are different. Some of the prosthetics are fuller up top and round. As we mature, we may lose that drape. There are prosthetics that drape a little more and pool in the bottom.”
