City looking at 2.25 per cent property tax increase

In hopes to reflect the change in the economy, the city of Grande Prairie is looking to adjust the property tax increase. They are looking at reducing the increase from 4.2 per cent to 2.25 per cent. The change would have a house assessed at $360,600 at $74 in property taxes rather than $139.

This would make their municipal taxes $3,376. At a Committee of the Whole Meeting last month, recommendations were made to lower that increase to under 2.5 per cent and also look at the alternatives to lowering it.

The city will vote at the next meeting on the change.
