Mayerthorpe trestle bridge fire considered arson

The fire that destroyed the Mayerthorpe CN trestle bridge yesterday may have been purposely set. RCMP allege there were people near the part of the bridge that the fire started on around 1:30 and the fire is being treated as an arson investigation.

According to witnesses, the bridge went up in flames in a matter of hours, prompting an emergency A trailer park with 38 mobile homes as well as nearby schools were evacuated. Residents were told to keep their windows closed due to the smoke.

What caused the fire to take down the bridge is now under investigation.
