Crosswalk addition in the works in downtown Grande Prairie

The city is looking into improving pedestrian safety at 97th avenue and 101st street. Traffic Engineering Supervisor Robin Hutchinson says a study was done on collisions in that area from 2012 to 2014 and there was a need to install safety measures.

The city will now look into painted crosswalk lines to make east to west travel easier. To match the rest of downtown’s current design and after the phases to come in the next couple of years, they will also look into bulb outs. These would make it easier to keep drivers from not seeing pedestrians when they are crossing the street.
