UPDATE: Serious fire on CN trestle bridge in Mayerthorpe

UPDATE: Firefighters reportedly have the fire contained within a perimeter. It’s located behind the high school and is not the one that spans Highway 43.

Residents of Kreek’s Krossing Trailer Park have been allowed to return home and the Town Emergency Operation Centre is no longer on standby. Residents in parts of Lac Ste. Anne County have been told to be prepared to evacuate with an hour’s notice.

A trestle bridge in Mayerthorpe has caught fire. An industrial fire alert has been issued for the town, and the local trailer court and Mayerthorpe Junior Senior High School have been evacuated.

The serious fire started around 1:30 on the CN Rail line in the northwest part of town. Residents are being told to close their doors, windows and vents.

The town’s Emergency Operation Centre is on standby. An evacuation centre has been set up at the Diamond Centre.

No word yet on what caused the blaze.
