Free haircuts given to less fortunate

There were 53 hair cuts were given out for free to people in need over the weekend. The St. Lawrence Centre and Hair T’s teamed up to provide some support for the community. Owner of the salon Tara Halliday says she first saw a similar event on the internet that happened in New York and thought it would be well received here in Grande Prairie.

“I think anytime you get your hair cut you feel good. You feel lifted up and even just having some human touch, it is just a good experience. People just feel better about themselves when they love their hair”

The event was paired with the St Lawrence Centre’s Saturday Night supper at the Church of Christ. Project Lead for the Centre Jared Gossen says the average attendance for the supper used to be 60 people. More recently, they have seen upwards of 90 people. This past weekend they had over 100 people come through the doors.

On top of hair cuts, there were over 15 bags of second hand clothing dropped off by community members for those in need.
