Wildfire hazard high in Grande Prairie region

Going into the weekend, the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie Forest Protection is high. A fire advisory remains in effect, meaning any non-essential burning should be postponed and no new fire permits will be issued. Campfires are still allowed as long as they’re in a safe environment.

So far this season there have been 23 wildfires in the region burning more than 127 hectares. One started in the last 24 hours and like almost all of the others, it was human-caused.

The wildfire 15 kilometres south of Grovedale is still 98 hectares in size and is being held. The one across Highway 40 is 6-point-6 hectares and considered under control.
