Firefighters slowly making progress on Grovedale wildfire

Only one new wildfire has been sparked in the Grande Prairie Forest Protection Area over the last 24 hours and like most of the others recently, it was human caused. There are now six wildfires burning in the region but none are considered out of control.

The blaze south of Grovedale has shrunk slightly to 98 hectares in size and is being held. Firefighters, heavy equipment and helicopters are still working hard to extinguish it.

The fire just across Highway 40 is also being held at 6.6 hectares. Two others are listed as under control and two have been turned over.

A fire advisory remains in effect for the Forest Protection Area, along with the County of Grande Prairie.
