Double homicide suspect charged with murder of southern Alberta woman

The man accused of killing two-year-old Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette and her father Terry Blanchette has been charged with another death. 69 year old Hanna Meketech was found dead in her Coleman home on September 9th, 2015. An autopsy determined her death was a homicide but her cause of death was never released.

A few days later, Blanchette was found dead in his Blairmore home and an Amber Alert was issued for his daughter Hailey. Her remains were found in a rural area the next day and vigils for the two were held across the province, including in Grande Prairie.

Derek Saretzky now faces an additional first degree murder charge. Media have confirmed that Meketech lived next door to Saretzky’s grandparents. His next court date has not yet been set.
