Reel Shorts Film Festival reaches developmental milestone

Reel Shorts Film Society will be a new non-profit organization coming to the region in 2017. The 10th annual presentation will be held this May for the last time under the umbrella of the Grande Prairie Live Theatre. Festival Director Terry Scerbak says as a new separate group they plan to keep the already successful festival growing.

“Last year our attendance was around 3600 including 1700 students. It is the largest short film festival on the prairies and one of the largest school programs in the country”

Scerbak says this year there has been an animator added to the mix and future plans of possible documentaries.

“Every year it is just to create more opportunity and support the film making community locally. We just grow that with opportunity and demand.”

Although it will be separate, President of the GPLT Debbie Haiworonsky says there will still be support for the festival with venues as well as artistic support.

The event this year runs May 10th to the 16th with some local talent being showcased.
