UPDATE: Fire burning near Clairmont ball diamonds

UPDATE: County firefighters have now responded to six calls over the past 24 hours, along with providing mutual aid to neighbours. They were called out to the brush fire in Clairmont around 12:20 a.m. A fire about 2.5 acres in size was burning near the ball diamonds on 96th Avenue. It is surrounded by two sides of water and a control line is keeping it contained.

County of Grande Prairie crews are on scene at several fires in the region.

There has been reports of a fire on the west side of the Clairmont Lake moving south along the water.

There is also a wildfire 15 kilometres south of Grovedale has grown to 100 hectares and is considered out of control. Construction was happening overnight to build a dozer guard that will help contain the fire. Firefighters will continue work Today with heavy equipment and helicopters. Winds are coming from the northwest so it s expected the fire and smoke will blow away from the hamlet of Grovedale.

Saskatoon Mountain also had a fire on it but isn’t expected to grow larger.

A fire was spotted in the Dunes gravel pit around 7:30 pm yesterday but crews were able to contain that one to approximately 2 acres.
