UPDATE: Hottest April day on record for Grande Prairie

Grande Prairie has smashed a 73 year old weather record. It reached 29.4 degrees in the 6 p.m. hour Monday, besting the previous April 18th high of 21.1, set in 1943.

Monday marked the earliest 25 plus degree day in 32 years for the Swan City. The last time it was warmer than 25 degrees before April 20th was in 1984 when it hit 28.3 degrees on April 15th.

The hottest day on record for April in Grande Prairie was April 25, 1977 when it reached 29.2 degrees. That means Monday is unofficially the hottest April day since records started in 1923.

Records were also set in Beaverlodge, where it hit 29.5, passing the previous record of 22.2 in 1926. Records there started in 1912.
