Man caught speeding through Beaverlodge dies of self-inflicted gunshot wound

A man spotted speeding through Beaverlodge Tuesday afternoon was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. When RCMP tried to pull over a white Dodge Ram going 170 kilometres an hour, it didn’t stop and instead drove recklessly through the town on Highway 43.

Police didn’t follow the truck, but it was later found stuck in a field outside of Beaverlodge. As officers set up a containment area around it, a single gunshot was heard. When they made it to the truck, a man was found dead inside. No shots were fired by mounties.

The Director of Law Enforcement of Alberta has determined RCMP will conduct the investigation into the sudden death. The man has been identified but his name is not being released to the public.
