Highway 40 road ban begins today

Road repairs will have highway 40 partial road bans starting at 3:00pm today. The ban will be for both north and south bound lanes south of Grande Prairie. The 32-kilometre section of Highway 40 between Cutbank River and Kakwa River is in need of urgent repair. A 75 per cent road ban is required until the highway can be repaired. Industrial traffic will only be allowed to travel with 75 per cent of their legal loads.

Heavy vehicles are allowed to cross the highway as usual, but not permitted to travel north or south. Highway 40 is the only heavy truck and high load route in the area and with that, there are no detours are available. Alberta Transportation says the repairs were originally planned for summer 2016 and are working to complete the work as soon as possible.
