Continued increase in Food Bank use in the region

There has been a steady increase in food bank use in Grande Prairie. With people in the region losing their jobs, Major Brian Beveridge of the Salvation Army says there has been more first time users and families coming to the food bank for help.

“We get a lot of new people coming in. I know when we are at our other location, we get a lot of people asking how to get a food hamper…a steady increase for sure.”

He says month over month the steady increase is about 30 percent.

“probably a 30% climb month over month. We get a lot of new people coming in.”

With the new Food Bank users being families, he explains that lunch snacks and juice boxes can always be used at the Food Bank as well as other non perishables.

You can find more information on the region’s Salvation Army on their website.
