Silver medal at Brier for Beaverlodge’s Geoff Walker

Beaverlodge’s Geoff Walker medalled at the Tim Hortons Brier, but it likely wasn’t the hardware he was gunning for. The Newfoundland-Labrador Rink was beat 9-5 by Team Alberta in the championship game.

Skip Brad Gushue’s hopes of winning the Brier in his thirteenth appearance were dashed in the seventh end when Kevin Koe’s shot gave Alberta three for a 7-3 lead. As lead, Walker shot 100 per cent in the final. It was his fifth time at the Brier, all with Gushue.

Team Alberta will now represent Canada at the 2016 World Men’s Championships in Switzerland. If they medal, they’ll qualify for the 2017 Tim Hortons Roar of the Rings in Ottawa.

After two back-to-back Brier titles, Grande Prairie’s Carter Rycroft’s was over much earlier. The first ever Team Canada in the history of the Brier went 6-5 in the round robin, missing the playoffs.
