City signs get a lot less animated

If you want to put Electronic advertising billboards near homes in Grande Prairie, you may have to go through a few steps first. In new sign bylaw changes, the use of Electronic Messaging Displays cannot affect the safety of pedestrians or people driving. Anyone who wants to put up an EMD has to go through a Development Officer and they may also be required to submit a road safety assessment with the application.

The brightness of a sign has been capped and the display also will now have a transition time restriction where the display style will be like a power point presentation.

The concerns about signage were highlighted during consultation including stakeholders and the public.
