Controlled burn of logging debris in Dunes area

Some controlled burns have started in the County of Grande Prairie. Contractors will spend the next couple of weeks in the Dunes area south of Grande Prairie burning logging debris from 56 hectares trees infested by Mountain Pine Beetles that were logged over the winter.

The burns will be concentrated in an area two to three kilometres south of the Aspen Ridge subdivision. The goal of the FireSmart program is to reduce the amount of fuel for wildfire season, which started early this season at the beginning of March.

While the work is going on, people are asked to stay away from the area and not use off-highway vehicles on the trails.
