Two men spent almost 48 hours on a rooftop to raise awareness for a new building over the weekend. Dan Rigler and Doug Edey spent late afternoon Friday to 4pm Sunday afternoon on the roof of the newly acquired Rising Above building. Executive Director of Rising Above Meg Siggelkow says the new building is all in the name of expanding their addictions and learning services.
“Draw awareness to the facility that is going to be re purposed from it used to be into a housing and recovery centre for men in addictions. The administration part will be both a place for life skills and counselling for men and women.”
He says the two men got a little cold the first night up on the building but closing off their sleeping area on the building the second night helped. Dan Rigler has been part of raising awareness for three years.
“First year he was suspended in a crane near Swiss Chalet. Last winter he spent a week as a homeless person.”
He adds that overall the event had lots of people come through but calculations are still being made for what was made.
Siggelkow says the program currently provides addictions recovery programming and houses about 9 men. With the group moving into the building, the Director says they will able to house about 15 men and provide more addiction support.
