SPCA asking for financial help from the city

SPCA in Grande Prairie is looking for the cities help to get them through financial difficulties. They approached the city this week to say they are in need of $90, 000 to help pay for things around the building. Fundraising and Public Relations officer Nell Martell says that if they receive the money, it would be used for veterinary bills and maintenance on the building. She adds that it has slowly come to the forefront as a problem and they already have uses for the funds that come in regularly.

“We use the funds that are donated regularly for vet bills and for food…medical and everything else. There is more to it than just that.”

She explains that since they already have the use for their usual funds so the extra is needed. Without the money, the organization would have to do other types of fundraisers.

“We did the Gala. The Gala did really well but obviously didn’t do as well as previous years. We are hoping to get a little help from the city.”

The SPCA has applied for a few grants already and is looking into applying for a CIP grant from the province. City Administration has been directed to look at funding options for the organization.

Donations for veterinary bills can be sent to the Animal Relief Foundation on the GP SPCA website.
