Students around Grande Prairie will be off school tomorrow and the next day while teachers gather for the Mighty Peace Teachers Convention. President of the Convention Julie Gummesen says there are about 16 hundred teachers that come to this each year.
“We have professional development all year long. The difference with the Teachers Convention, it is the teacher’s choice. A lot of our PD is planned by the school… we have some choice there. With the Teachers Convention, the two days that we get together it is fully the teacher’s choice.”
She explains that educators can choose to learn new things and follow things that are their own interest. There will be keynote speakers presenting on varying topics that are coming from places all over from Winnipeg to California. Local teachers will also present sessions to other teachers on information they have learned.
