Property owners should see their assessment notices in the mail over the next couple of weeks with assessments being sent in the mail today. Residential properties have remained stable, according to City of Grande Prairie Assessor Scott Smith. While commercial and industrial property assessments have increased by about 5 percent. Smith explains that property owners may think their assessment is too high or low for today’s market but this is because there will be a difference from July 1st 2015 to today. He says property owners should ask themselves if this new assessed value would work looking at the date at the beginning of July.
The taxes that a property will pay will be based on the tax rate that is applied to 2015 Property Assessment. If you have any concerns, you have until April 29th to discuss them with the City’s assessment department.
