Team Alberta wins gold at Scotties Tournament of Hearts

Team Alberta with Chelsea Carey defeats Northern Ontario and Krista McCarville in the gold medal game with a score of 7-6. It was tied going into the 10th end and Carey took the point with her last rock. She explains that winning the Scotties Tournament of Hearts is a feeling that can’t even be put into words.

“I don’t even think I know what just happened. I have dreamed of being a Canadian Champion since I watched my dad do it in 1992. I have no words which doesn’t happen to me very often.”

Along with the Alberta section cheering “Keep Calm and Carey On”, Carey’s father was cheering for her in the crowd.

“I’m so glad he was able to be here. He was the first person I was looking for.”

While McCarville was looking for a different result, she says her team is going to stay positive and they will take the experience to use for next year.

“It was a difficult draw but in the circumstances, it is a difficult draw and she made it great.”

Along with the gold medal and Scotties trophy, Carey received MVP for the Scotties Tournament as well.
