Sticking to well lit areas and main streets is one way to keep yourself safe when travelling on foot. With recent attempted child abductions in the region, RCMP are reminding people to tell their kids how to go about being safe when walking in public. They say having a safe place to go within their neighbourhood such as a community centre or school is one good idea.
If your child is approached by a vehicle they do not recognize, tell them to try to get a licence plate number and stay as far away from it as possible. Police also recommend for children to use the buddy system when walking from place to place.
