Team Alberta 3-0 after day two of Scotties

Team Alberta is 3-0 at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Chelsea Carey stunned Team Canada’s Jennifer Jones 12-5 in her Scotties debut as an Alberta skip and followed up with wins over Newfoundland and Labrador and British Columbia Sunday. Third Amy Nixon says their goal coming into the event was to go 2-1 after the first two days but they aren’t surprised they’re in the lead.

“I think the result is more about us than it is about what anyone else thinks about us, so I’m happy and I think we all are happy to go to bed tonight 3-0. Anyone who thought we weren’t a decent team is ridiculous, so I don’t think there’s any target [on our backs] that shouldn’t have been there in the first place.”

The rink will face Northern Ontario in Draw 6 starting at 1:30 Monday afternoon and Prince Edward Island in Draw 7 at 6:30 p.m at Revolution Place. Carey says she isn’t taking their record so far for granted.

“It only gets tougher as the week goes on typically. You want to get as many wins as you can, obviously, so the sooner the better; it takes the pressure off a little bit but it’s always just so dicey. It’s just never over; round robins are amazing like that. It’s as good of a start as we could have asked for.”

Carey expects tomorrow’s matches to be tough.
