Downtown core temporary solution to truck route issues

The downtown core may be used as a temporary truck route while the City upgrades other options.

Issues with travel distance and time were brought to council’s attention by haulers, who experience increased construction costs in the City’s north end when they use the current truck route.

Senior Traffic Analyst Norman Kyle feels using the downtown core is the best option for the meantime.

“In order to help reduce the haul across the city, we felt turning 98th Street from 100th Ave. up to 108th Ave. and 108th Ave. from 98th Street up to 100th Street as an interim truck route until such time as we can upgrade 92nd Street.”

Once 92nd Street is upgraded from 100th to 116th Avenue, it’s expected that will be best for trucks.

The City is also updating its Master Transportation Plan in 2015.

A draft amended traffic bylaw will be brought forward by staff.
