Hair broom use limited ahead of Scotties

The Scotties Tournament of Hearts hits Grande Prairie Saturday but Curling Canada has made a last minute change to its broom moratorium. The use of hair brooms will be limited at the Canadian men’s and women’s curling championships.

Only skips and thirds holding the broom in the house will be allowed to use them, as well as for sweeping stones that have passed the tee-line. Skips can also use them to sweep tick shots on guards in front of the house.

Hair brooms have been a hot topic in the curling community as there’s debate over whether new ones scratch the ice and change the movement of stones as much as some of the banned fabric broomheads. The Scotties run February 20th through 28th at Revolution Place.
