Amisk dam environmental assessment given to independent review panel

The environmental assessment of the proposed Amisk Hydroelectric Project on the Peace River has been sent to an independent review panel. Environment Minister Catherine McKenna says the decision to refer the project comes from its “potential to cause significant adverse environmental effects”, along with concerns from the public and Indigenous groups.

AHP Development Corporation wants to build a 300 Megawatt dam roughly 15 kilometres upstream from Dunvegan. It would reportedly generate 1,875 gigawatt hours of electricity each year.

The review panel should be put together within the next 90 days, with its report due 16 months after that.
