First Annual Heart & Stroke Day in Grande Prairie today

Heart and Stroke Foundation wants the people of Grande Prairie to paint the town red with a new day to spotlight Heart and Stroke month. The Foundation’s Area Manager Margaret Bell says February 12th will officially be Heart and Stroke day and it is about heart health with ways to join in.

“We invite everyone to take our risk assessment test and you can just go to heart and stroke.ca, take that risk assessment test, know where your numbers are and start putting your health first by getting your exercise every day. 30 minutes a day can really make a difference in your life.”

She adds that at the Subway south 40 restaurant the proceeds from all breakfast items sold this morning will be going to the foundation. She explains this is the first Heart and Stroke day in the city of Grande Prairie and Mayor Bill Given will be at the restaurant to announce the official annual event. Businesses around the region can get a plaque for participating in the day as well by developing their own way of fundraising.

“Wear red or maybe go casual for the day and pay ten dollars. You could make a small donation to dress casual or maybe [your employees] are charged for not wearing red. You could bring baking in for the rest of the team and make donations for that.”
