Two County fire stations looking at additions and upgrades

Changes could be coming to two fire stations in the County. County Fire Chief Everett Cooke says Teepee Creek and LaGlace were looked at a couple years ago and are in need of some upgrades. He explained that the Teepee Creek station had already had small upgrades and the LaGlace station would be first to be upgraded.

“Speaking about LaGlace specifically, a recommendation going forward to council was a 1700 square foot addition to the existing structure which would provide an additional bay, more room for training, more room for equipment and proper facilities to clean or maintain everything.”

He said last week the recommendation was presented to county council and more information will be provided from council closer to 2017. The Fire Chief says they received about 5 estimates from engineering companies on prices for the projects ranging from around 800-thousand dollars to about 2 million.

“Our recommendation was for slightly over 1.1 million … and our recommendation was to go closer to the lower side and we think this will suit our needs.”

The Fire Chief says he doesn’t expect any shovels in the ground until 2016 is over.
