City encouraging downtown improvements

Downtown Grande Prairie will get $1,500,000 injected into it from city council for the Downtown Incentives Program Policy. The city says the money is earmarked at around $500,00 per year to support the program.

They say the policy is to encourage downtown investors to buy higher density residential property and improve the look of the outside of businesses. City council says they will have grants such as a patio grant, an urban residential development grant and a façade improvement grant. There will also be tax deferral programs, provisions and waivers for city fees.

You can find more information at the city’s website.
