Man in Charlie Lake standoff found dead, child safe

The Independent Investigations Office of B-C has been called in after an 11 hour standoff in Charlie Lake Sunday ended in a fatality. Fort St. John RCMP were responding to a domestic disturbance that a woman was able to escape.

However, she said a man and their two year old son were still in a home and the North District Emergency Response Team was brought in to help set up a containment area. Police were repeatedly unable to make contact with the subject of the complaint, but when they entered the home late at night they found a man dead and the child unharmed.

The IIOBC will be looking into whether the RCMP’s actions played any role in his death.
