Arts, cultural spaces and parks wanted for South Montrose site

Construction is set to start on the South Montrose site next summer and it’s pretty clear what Grande Prairie residents want to see built. More than 1,100 people responded to a survey on the future of the area, with parks spaces and arts and cultural facilities topping the list.

Recreation uses were also up there, but on the bottom were hotels, offices, and housing. Survey takers hope the city will base the area south of the Montrose Cultural Centre off of Edmonton’s Churchill Square, Muskoseepi Park, and Calgary’s Olympic Park. A performing arts centre, public square and parking were considered top priorities.

The next phase of public engagement will happen in February.
