Rising Above Grande Prairie will be receiving $3 million from the Provincial government towards expanding capacity for addiction recovery.
Currently, construction is being completed for a new 36-bed treatment centre for men, and is expected to start taking-in clients in the fall.
According to officials, Rising Above’s six-month bed-based recovery program is designed to support individuals throughout treatment and help them transition into long-term recovery.
“For nearly 20 years, Rising Above has been supporting people in Grande Prairie. By partnering with a trusted community partner, we can help ensure more people in the region can access the help they need and break cycles of addiction,” said Grande Prairie MLA Nolan Dyck.
Executive Director for Rising Above Ministries, Adele-Marie Diffey says the investment will help them advance the services that they offer.
“This investment will allow Rising Above to significantly increase access to long-term recovery in our community, adding 36 residential recovery spaces. Behind every one of those beds is a person who will have the opportunity to find stability, address the deeper issues behind addiction and begin rebuilding their life. We are incredibly grateful to the Government of Alberta for investing in Rising Above and helping us create more opportunities in our region to experience hope, healing and lasting recovery.”
Officials added that planning is currently underway for a Grande Prairie Recovery Community. When completed, it is expected to provide up to 50 long-term addiction treatment beds and expand access to evidence-based, recovery-focused treatment services in northern Alberta.
The non-profit is also renovating an existing facility to provide women’s-only addiction treatment services.
Rising Above provides bed-based addiction treatment, recovery programming, and recovery housing services across several sites in the city.
