Grande Prairie sisters make national U-21 Women’s Canoe Polo Team

Two sisters from Grande Prairie have been named to Canada’s U-21 Women’s Canoe Polo Team. Chanel and Athena Hauck will be training out of Alberta for the ICF Canoe Polo World Championships in Italy in August.

The pair have been involved in the sport since 2007, when they were 9 and 5 years old respectively. Throughout the Alberta Summer Games in 2010, 2012 and 2014, they have brought back eleven medals for zone 8, including a medal haul of two goal, one silver and one bronze for Chanel in 2010.

Her coach describes her as technically sound, while Athena is full of determination and grit. Athena recently travelled to Quebec this past summer to take part in the Canadian National Canoe Polo Championship. She’s currently in grade nine at St. Joseph’s Catholic School, while Chanel is in the unit clerk program at GPRC.
