Ice front should make its way through Town of Peace River tonight

An ice front is expected to pass through the Town of Peace River later today or overnight. An ice cover was found 1.8 kilometres downstream of the Highway 2 bridge this morning.

As it makes its way past the town, water levels should gradually increase by 2.5 to 3.5 metres. No problems are expected, but Alberta Environment says there is the potential for ice movement, which could mean rapid fluctuations of the water level on the Peace River.
