GPPS helps Make-A-Wish come true for 6 year-old Grande Prairie cancer survivor

A local 6 year-old cancer survivor got the surprise and the shock of a lifetime after the police surprised him, and his family with a trip to Mexico.

Rowan was diagnosed with Leukemia at just 2 years-old, having to undergo treatment for three years.

Due to everything that Rowan has went through, he was awarded with a wish from Make-A-Wish Canada.

Ever since Rowan was diagnosed, he hasn’t had the chance to go to the beach, which led to his wish of wanting to go to Mexico.

Rowan’s mom, Kasaundra Carpenter says that Rowan wants to be a police officer once he is older.

Just recently, the Grande Prairie Police Service showed up to Rowan’s house to surprise him and award him with his trip to Mexico.

Carpenter says Rowan was filled with different emotions when the officers showed up.

“They all showed up in the driveway, and he was like shocked.”

“He was very happy, he had a big smile on his face. But he is really shy, he was a little anxious, because he was like borderline confused.”

Despite being both shy and confused when the officers showed up, Rowan had a chance to take a ride in a police car.

Carpenter added that the moment kind of brought everything together.

“It definitely was emotional for me, it kind of hit me altogether like woah.”

“It kind of just brought everything together, and it was really emotional but then so exciting because we get to all go as a family now. And just kind of celebrate that he beat cancer and that he’s in remission.”

Next month, Rowan, his parents, and his two brothers will be heading on their dream trip.

“He really wants to see dolphins, so that is our main goal. He also just wants to go to the beach, he really has never been to a real beach.”

“He is super strong, and I don’t think he realizes everything that he has went through.”
