The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating an officer-involved shooting following a lengthy stand-off through the overnight hours Wednesday.
Officials say Fox Creek RCMP responded to an alleged domestic situation involving a weapon around 10:15 p.m.. August 4 near 5A Street between 7th and 8th Avenue.
Police say shortly after, they were able to contain the scene with numerous officers on site.
Mounties say throughout the night, multiple attempts were made, including through crisis negotiators and emergency response team members to get the male suspect to surrender. However, those attempts were unsuccessful.
Then, at 5:18 a.m., August 5, authorities say there was a confrontation with the suspect, which resulted in an officer discharging their service firearm, striking the suspect.
After medical care was received on scene, the suspect was then transported to hospital with STARS air ambulance.
RCMP say that no officers were injured during the call.
Independent of ASIRT’s investigation, the RCMP’s internal review process has also been implemented to gather a full account of what took place during the incident.
