Nearly $2,500 has been raised so far to help save the Grande Prairie Storm. A campaign was launched Monday, as the hockey team confirmed it is surviving week-to-week and needs $200,000 to finish out the year.
Donations are being accepted on the Storm’s official website, and only there. A GoFundMe page was started up by someone not affiliated with the franchise, and officials have asked for it to be taken down.
They’ve been losing money since they last won the league championship in 2009, and their contingency fund was eaten up last year. Ticket sales have dropped drastically over the past several years, and donation incentives are being offered to help put more people in seats.
