Sexsmith and District Museum completes four new exhibits just in time for Chautauqua Day

People attending Chautauqua Day in Sexsmith will have the chance to see the four new exhibits at the Sexsmith and District Museum.

Four new exhibits are now available to come and check out at the museum. Volunteers at the museum say they try and swap out some exhibits every year. However, one of the new exhibits will be permanent.

Supervisor and Events Coordinator for the buildings on 99st, Sharon Ophus says she is beyond excited for people to come on down and check out the new exhibits.

“It’s been a lot of work, and we’re excited to be able to switch up and create new things for people to see.”

In the coming days, lots of people will start to see some of the changes, with the museum expecting a good show out for seniors day on Thursday.

Ophus mentioned that some people have already seen the new exhibits, and the feed back has been great. Ophus added that without the help from the volunteers and people who donate the items that the museum wouldn’t be possible.

The permanent exhibit is a veterans memorial tribute, that volunteers have been putting together since September 2025. During seniors day, they will be doing a ribbon cutting for the exhibit.

Residents will have the chance to checkout the museum during Chautauqua Day, along with a number of other festivities going on around the town.

The day will start with a pancake breakfast at 8:00 a.m., and then will transition into activities.

Mayor Kate Potter says some of the activities include a parade, markets, kids art show, and more.

“It is your classic small town fair, with something for everyone.”

More information on the museum and Chautauqua Day can be found on the town’s website.
