Quick response time to first rural service area structure fire

The Grande Prairie Fire Department has responded to its first fire in the newly annexed rural service area. The underside of a mobile home in Meadowview Trailer Park caught fire Monday night, but everyone was able to get out safely. Platoon Chief Steve Larsen says their response time was around eight minutes.

“By us having three strategically placed fire stations, we can respond, we think, very quickly and very efficiently to any call in those newly annexed areas.”

The city has committed to providing its new residents with the same fire service as its residential areas.
Three fire engines along with 14 fire fighters initially responded to the fire as heavy smoke and flames were visible. Larsen says that kind of response will be the norm.

“In those newly annexed areas where they have no hydrants, we actually send more trucks than we would in town. The reason for that is water supply, so we send three large trucks.”

Another 22 fire fighters were called in to be available for support. The fire was contained to the underside of the mobile home.
