1,300+ players take part in annual 3D Children’s Society’s tournament

3D Children’s Society’s annual tournament saw nearly 1300 kids attend, last week.

On Friday, May 8 the 3D Children’s Society held their big-ticket fundraiser in the Charles Spencer High School parking lot, and the Hansen Lincoln Field.

One of the leads for the charity, Darren Foley says this year is either the 25th or 26th time the charity has hosted the tournament.

Foley added that when they first hosted the tournament only six local high schools participated, and played hockey. The difference between 2026 and year one is night and day, as there was a total of of 180 teams, ranging from grades 4 to 12 playing both soccer and ball hockey.

Foley says there was probably 1300 kids who attended, roughly 150 volunteers, and anticipated to see 4,000 people passthrough.

This tournament is the major fundraiser the charity has each year, as the money raised goes back to families across the Peace Region who have to travel out of town for their kids to seek medical treatment.

“You’re talking extreme expenses for those families, and now that we are doing quite well we are making a pretty significant dent for these families,” Foley said.

Money was raised through a couple of different ways, including sponsorships and silent auctions. However, the kids playing had to do a pledge, and get someone in their family or a friend to give them around 10 to 20 dollars to give to the charity.

It is unconfirmed on how much the charity raised throughout the event.
