The County of Grande Prairie has issued a fire advisory for the entire county, including the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley, effective 1:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, May 5, 2026, until further notice.
The advisory is in effect due to increasing spring temperatures and no rainfall in the forecast. The county says it is still issuing fire permits, and all existing fire permits are still valid.
Residents are advised that any burning without a valid fire permit, other than a campfire, is prohibited.
Those who must burn are asked to follow permit guidelines and safe burning practices, including always remaining on site until burning is complete.
The county is reminding residents that burning is never permitted when winds reach, or are forecasted to reach, 12 kilometres per hour or higher.
If the advisory is updated to a fire restriction, the use of wood campfires on public land will be prohibited, and fire permits may be restricted, suspended, or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.
The county will continue to monitor weather conditions, updates can be found on its website.
