Grande Prairie Enforcement Services removed eight vehicles from the road, and handed out a total of 15 violations as part of a recent vehicle safety initiative.
Officials say for three days last week, Peace Officers conducted 18 traffic stops, targeting vehicles that were displaying visible structural damage or equipment violations.
During the initiative, police removed eight vehicles off the road that were deemed unsafe, and issued four others with inspection notices.
Officials say in addition to the citations ,one driver was suspended, and five arrest warrants were executed during the 3 day blitz.
“We were able to remove a vehicle from the road that had a hole in the floor, as well as another that was using a screwdriver to start the ignition,” says Peace Officer Sergeant Ryan Hoffman. “Vehicles like these pose a risk not only to the driver, but to everyone on the road.”
Alongside the Grande Prairie Enforcement Services, they partnered up with a Vehicle Safety Investigator from the Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors, and Traffic Safety Services Division.
The stops were completed under Section 66(1) of the Traffic Safety Act.
